In addition to design I also have opportunities to pitch, present, write, illustrate and most importantly - to think, persuade and share my passion for the creative process.

Senior Artist
University of California
Davis, CA.
1997 - 1999

As Senior Artist I was responsible for every stage of projects for a wide variety of departments at the University; including renowned Viticulture, Veterinary, and Health Care programs. Projects ran the entire range of budgets, time constraints, client personalities, complexity and design direction. I had daily involvement in on-site pre-press and printing facilities developing confident skills with trapping, checking film, bluelines, color keys, match prints, press checks and dialogue with production specialists. These skills enable me to design with the knowledge that what I create will print as I expect it to. I worked directly with clients to determine design direction, paper selection, inks, photography, folding, die-cutting, varnishing and coatings, and also to address issues like trapping vs. overprinting, color correction, line screen, and resolution. I worked directly with the lead estimator to determine estimates and ensure budgets and deadlines were met. I encouraged my clients to stretch their perception of themselves and was rewarded with their friendship and respect, many great projects, and even a few awards. In short I ensured my clients got better visual problem solving, service and product than they could get anywhere else.

DTP Production Manager

1992 - 1996

Sure Desktop Publishing is evil but 1992 was a market much like 2001. So, that’s the skeleton in my closet. I did learn a great deal being responsible for meeting the needs of clients both large and very, very small. Some notable clients were: Ziff-Davis, Bayer, PowerBar, Banana Republic, Pacific Bell, Aetna and Sybase. Also responsible for department organization, meeting deadlines often measured in hours, network administration (Mac, PC, SGI, Xerox), and assistance in hiring and training. Gave new technology presentation in Portland, OR. to an audience of approximately 100.

Worked with the Marketing Coordinator to successfully promote UCLA's Cultural and Recreational Affairs department as well as its subsidiary units and the events they sponsored, such as the Volvo Tennis Tournament. Worked on a Macintosh and the usual software. Also I applied my illustration, cartooning, page layout and paste-up skills. I dealt with a variety of people who requested an equally diverse array of work; including logo design, brochures, posters, periodicals, newsletters, t-shirts, and invitations.

Graphic Artist
University of California
Davis, CA.
1988 - 1990

One of several designers in the department I attained seniority during my tenure. I synergized work on a Macintosh with work done by hand to create successful indoor and outdoor signs, banners, informational billboards, flyers, logos, brochures, newsletters and pamphlets for events and organizations large and small. I worked both individually and cooperatively, meeting with clients and printers to discuss project direction and ensure excellent results.
